Have your say: QPWS Master Plan consultation closes soon
In July 2011, the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) released a consultation draft of ‘Naturally Queensland 2020: The Master Plan for protected areas, forests and wildlife’. This document has been developed to update the original QPWS Master Plan, which was endorsed by Cabinet and released in 2001.
The 2001 Master Plan has provided strategic guidance for QPWS over the past 10 years. Revising the Master Plan provides QPWS and the community with the opportunity to reflect on past challenges and successes, and to set the direction for 2020.
The draft Master Plan outlines the vision and approach for management of protected areas (both terrestrial and marine), forests and wildlife in Queensland. The draft also proposes strategic actions for QPWS management between 2011 and 2020, including facing the challenges of climate change.
The consultation period for the draft Master Plan will close on 20 November 2011. The consultation draft can be found on the Department of Environment and Resource Management website. There is a plain text version as well as a copy of the illustrated plan.
Workshops on the draft Master Plan are currently being held for QPWS staff throughout regional centres. QPWS staff are invited to attend Workshops wherever possible, and are welcome to provide comments on the draft either individually or through their work groups.
If you would like to provide comment on the consultation draft then please either send an email to parkswildlifevision@derm.qld.gov.au or post your comments to:
