World Ranger Day 2011

Each year, July 31 marks a very special day for the rangers around the globe. World Ranger Day is the day to celebrate the work of dedicated ranger staff, and honour those who have lost their lives in the course of their duties. This year the QRA and QPWS will commemorate World Ranger Day in a number of ways:

On Friday July 29, Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) rangers will be in 400 George Street accepting donations to the Thin Green Line Foundation.

The QRA will host a World Ranger Day gala dinner in Atherton on Saturday July 30. Held at the Atherton Hotel, we'll be showing the film Thin Green Line, followed by a buffet meal and band. Entry is $30 and all profits go to the Thin Green Line Foundation. There will also be a $100 board and lucky door prize for those attending.

On Sunday July 31, the QRA in collaboration with QPWS will be showcasing the work rangers do at Daisy Hill Conservation Park and holding a sausage sizzle. A number of fund-raising breakfasts and lunches will also be held at offices and park bases across the state.

This weekend is a great time for us all to reflect on the dedicated commitment and tremendous work that the Ranger community throughout Queensland and across the globe do to protect our natural and cultural environments
